Western Governors University Offers CompTIA Scholarships for IT Bachelor's Degree Programs
SALT LAKE CITY -- Western Governors University (www.wgu.edu), in
cooperation with the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), is now offering two scholarships to aspiring
and experienced IT professionals looking to earn their bachelor's degree.
The scholarships are available for WGU's six online IT bachelor's degrees, which include concentrations in networks
administration, networks design and management, IT databases, IT security, and IT software.
These WGU IT scholarships are in recognition of the close integration of CompTIA certifications, the recognized industry
standard for a broad range of IT skills, into WGU's IT degree programs. WGU's online IT degrees incorporate between
eight and ten industry-recognized certifications, including CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Security+.
Each scholarship is valued up to $2,500. The scholarship will be credited to the recipient's account at the rate of $500 per six-month
term for up to five terms. Tuition for a six-month term is $2,790, less the $500 per term scholarship.
The scholarship application deadline is May 20, 2008. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must come into WGU already
holding one of the four CompTIA certifications offered as part of each IT degree program: CompTIA A+ IT Technician,
CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, or CompTIA Project+.
WGU is a non-profit, fully-accredited institution and is the only online competency-based university. The university is
regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and nationally accredited by the
Distance Education and Training Council.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic record, readiness for online study, and other considerations. WGU's
competency-based approach to education makes it possible for those students (especially those who already hold IT
certifications) to accelerate their programs and complete the requirements of their online bachelor's degree in as little
as one to three years. The actual time to completion will depend on the incoming student's prior experience, academic
background, and time commitment to study. For more information go to WGU's
scholarship information page or call toll-free 1-866-225-5948.
