Up to 150 Scholarships Available for Recently Displaced Workers Salt Lake City, Utah — Western Governors University (www.wgu.edu) announced today that it has increased the number of economic turnaround scholarships available to displaced workers from 100 to 150. The increase is in response to the large number of applications received, more than 230, since the program’s launch in May. Created to help workers who have lost their jobs in the past year go back to college, the scholarship offers up to $1,250 per six-month term for up to four terms, up to a total of $5,000. The scholarships may be used toward bachelor’s or master’s degrees in any of WGU’s four colleges: Business, Education, Information Technology, and Health Professions. The non-profit, online university was recently highlighted on the NBC Nightly News series called “What Works” as an affordable, accredited means for adult students to “reinvent themselves in this awful economy.” Scholarship applicants must be able to complete an online degree program in two years or less and currently have an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. Because the scholarship program is competitive, interested prospective students should apply as soon as possible.
