Business Subject Matter Experts

Western Governors University Seeks Subject Matter Experts to Support the Development of:
Bachelor of Science in Business: Human Resource Management

Western Governors University (WGU) seeks highly qualified professionals to support the redevelopment of the Bachelor of Science in Business: Human Resource Management program as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Specifically, the university seeks to engage with 8 to 10 SMEs for each of the following subject areas:

  • Human Resource Management
  • Employment Law
  • Workforce Planning: Recruitment and Selection
  • Training and Development
  • Compensation and Benefits

This SME opportunity is a short-term, contract position. Interested candidates should have earned a terminal degree and have substantial, specialized experience (5+ years) working and/or teaching in at least one of the course and assessment areas described above. Contracted SMEs must agree to come together in collaboration with university faculty and curriculum development teams, both remotely and in-person. These engagements typically span 40 to 60 hours across several weeks and culminate with a face-to-face workshop in Salt Lake City, Utah. During these workshops, WGU teams and contacted SMEs finalize a development “blueprint” for each course and assessment. These blueprints identify the specific competencies and objectives the university will teach and measure in each subject area. As such, the blueprints are essential to the production of high quality courses, assessments, and degrees.

Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience. The university offers reimbursement for all necessary travel expenses. Interested, qualified SME candidates should express their interest by sending a cover letter and current resume to:
