After the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Western Governors University students, staff, and alumni have donated over $18,000 to support the American Red Cross relief effort. Students gave over $10,500 while staff donated over $7,500. In addition to these generous contributions, WGU matched each dollar donated, bringing the grand total to $36,381.
All donations made through WGU were given to the Red Cross Haiti Relief Effort and provided basic items for post-disaster living. The Red Cross has already begun to distribute these items, including blankets, bed mats, tarps, personal hygiene items, cooking utensils and water vessels. Many thanks to everyone who gave so generously to the WGU Haiti Relief Campaign. If you are still interested in donating to Haiti or the recent earthquake relief efforts in Chile, please visit the American Red Cross site to find out how you can donate to these and other global relief efforts.
