News Release: New Scholarship for IT Professionals, 8/6/10

Up to $3,000 Available for IT Professionals Enrolling in the Online University’s College of Information Technology

Salt Lake City — Western Governors University is making it easier for current IT professionals to finish their bachelor’s degrees; the online university has announced a new scholarship program, the WGU Information Technology Professionals Scholarship. The scholarship was created for IT professionals who have already completed some coursework toward an online IT degree and who have earned at least two IT certifications. WGU will award 20 scholarships, paid at the rate of $600 per six-month term, for up to five terms.

WGU is ideal for busy IT professionals with full-time jobs and family obligations. Degree programs are all online and competency-based, allowing students to study when they have the time and to advance when they demonstrate proficiency rather than by earning credits for time spent in classes. Because WGU is a non-profit university with a mission to provide accessible higher education to working adults, tuition is affordable, less than $6,000 per year. And, WGU continues to buck the trend in higher ed—tuition hasn’t increased in the past year, and won’t increase this year.

All of WGU’s Information Technology programs include industry-recognized certifications, including CIW, CCNA, MCITP, OCA, and CompTIA. In addition, WGU is a Microsoft IT Academy member, which allows the university to offer students world-class technology curriculum and courseware provided by Microsoft. The College of Information Technology offers six bachelor’s degree programs:
