At an online university, you often have much more control over your study environment than a traditional student stuck in a classroom might have.

The 23rd commencement ceremony at WGU is a big one - this summer, we mark our 15th anniversary! More than 16,000 graduates have earned their degrees online from WGU since we were incorporated in 1997, starting with Genevieve Kirch, WGU’s first graduate in December 2000.

When Chaunte Lowe was 4 years old she told her mom that she wanted to be in the Olympics some day. Her mother responded by saying it would take hard work and perseverance to accomplish such a goal. Years later she has reached that goal—for the third time—only this time she is doing it as a mother of two and a full-time student earning her master’s degree online through WGU.
