Recently, Western Governors University was featured in the Los Angeles Times Personal Finance column by Kathy Kristof. The article focuses on the non-profit approach WGU takes to making higher education accessible, flexible, and affordable for students all over the country. WGU lets students like Orleatha Smith (featured in the article) have a full-time job, take care of family responsibilities, and go to school at the same time. The online university tailors education to the individual and allows students to work at an accelerated pace.

Oakley the dog shows his WGU school spirit and gets ready to study for his online degree. While he is not the official WGU mascot, he sure looks the part with his WGU t-shirt and glasses! Oakley’s owner, a student in our Teachers College, said “Oakley is a wonderful dog and makes people smile, that’s for sure!”

Western Governors University acquired five extraordinary trees through the Festival of Trees charity auction that benefits Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City. The hospital serves the special needs of children who suffer from complex illnesses and injuries in the states of Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and Montana. Considered one of the top children's hospitals in the U.S., Primary Children s has helped the children of several WGU staff members.
