In the rapidly growing world of online higher education, the number of reasons for earning a degree online is as great as the number of students enrolled. But again and again, one common theme arises: flexibility. While going to college online is often just as rigorous and challenging as attending a more traditional school, students earning a degree online don’t face the same kinds of time and space restrictions.

This week is a big week for the WGU community as we prepare to launch WGU Washington on Thursday – and the week kicked off first thing Monday morning with news in the Seattle Times and the Puget Sound Business Journal announcing the leader who will take the reins as WGU Washington Chancellor: Jean Floten, current President of Bellevue College.

The WGU community just keeps getting bigger. In fact, this month we’ve reached two major milestones: We now have 25,000 students, and more than 10,000 students have completed an online bachelor’s or master’s degree since WGU’s inception.

WGU students have two more reasons to be proud of being part of the WGU community. Last week, the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) recognized WGU with two awards for excellence in distance learning.
