January is National Mentoring Month, and throughout the month, WGU Connection will be highlighting stories of WGU mentors and the students they’ve helped along the way.

My mentor is Pat Hardy. Words cannot describe what a wonderful mentor and person she is.
I am from Bulgaria, and when I started the program in WGU, I had been in the U.S. for just one year. English is not my first language, and I was very worried about whether I would be successful.
Pat motivated me the whole time. Every time when I was scared for the upcoming exams, she gave me confidence. She believed in me in times when I didn’t believe in myself.
She helped me discover how far one can get with support and motivation. The result: I graduated with my marketing degree in 17 months.
I will be always thankful for how she went above and beyond all my expectations. My husband had a very complicated back surgery one year ago. He is now 27 and is considered disabled. We were struggling. Pat was there to listen to me. She was my support when I needed to share my pain with someone.
She still calls sometimes, even though I have graduated and am not her "duty" anymore, just to give me strength to keep going and to let me know I am not alone!
In such a hard time in my life, I thank God I had Pat Hardy as a mentor. She made a change in my life. I have tears in my eyes writing all this. People like Pat Hardy make me believe, make me hope, make me dream, and make me smile!
Thank you, Pat Hardy, and thank you, WGU – from the bottom of my heart!
