Western Governors University currently has over 23,000 students across the country and overseas. California boasts the most students per single state at 2,250 while Guam (a U.S. territory) has the least, at seven. New Jersey has the most dense population of WGU students with 23.6 students per square mile, with only one student per every 4,418 square miles in North Dakota.

WGU students come from urban, suburban, and rural areas. Most are working full-time or part-time jobs while they earn their online degree. Most students who are pursuing an online bachelor’s degree already have some college experience.
