WGU is an NEA Academy Partner
Over a one-year period, the National Education Association (NEA) conducted an extensive nationwide review of approximately 120 universities that offer online master’s degree programs for teachers. From this review, the NEA invited, received, and reviewed proposals from 17 institutions. Finalists were selected to present to the evaluation team at the NEA headquarters.
The NEA focused their review on two main criteria:
- Quality and credibility of the programs offered
From the review, the NEA selected three institutions to become NEA Academy Partners, WGU and two other online universities.
Why WGU was Selected
WGU was selected as an NEA Academy Partner because the online, non-profit university met the two main selection criteria. In particular, the NEA chose WGU for:
- Our non-profit status
- NCATE accreditation
- Affordable tuition
- Our competency-based approach to education that makes acceleration possible
How the NEA Academy is Promoted
The NEA Academy Partners are being promoted by NEA Member Benefits (NEAMB), the for-profit arm of the NEA which sells discounted financial products including credit cards, insurance, investments, loans, and mortgages. The NEA Academy has been taken into the NEAMB group as a new professional development category.
