Western Governors University and the National Urban League have partnered to offer special discounts for individuals affiliated with the National Urban League to help them reach their educational and career goals.
Individuals affiliated with the National Urban League—employees, members, and clients—are eligible for the tuition discount.
As the nation’s first online, nonprofit, competency-based university, WGU offers accredited bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in business, information technology, teacher education, and health professions, including nursing.
“The National Urban League is thrilled to have partnered with WGU,” said Marc Morial, president of the National Urban League. “Their online programs offer flexibility, high quality, and affordability and give individuals a great opportunity to earn a degree that will be respected by employers nationwide.”
When you become a WGU student, you’ll study under the guidance of a dedicated mentor who will work with and support you from enrollment to graduation. Together, with your mentor, you’ll develop your personalized Degree Plan—a roadmap and schedule for successfully completing your program. You’ll experience the same level of personal support from every department at WGU. (learn more about the WGU Experience)
Our competency-based approach to education allows for extensive personalization of your program to fit around your busy schedule. But, it’s truly challenging for most students, and if you’re not planning to put in 15-20 hours a week or more, you shouldn’t apply to WGU.
WGU’s rigorous, competency-based approach is ideally suited to self-directed learners ready to advance their education and careers efficiently. Unlike traditional, and even other online universities, WGU doesn’t award degrees based on seat time. Instead, you earn your degree by demonstrating your competence in each course. Through independent study, learning resources, and carefully designed assessments, you learn and master essential skills and knowledge necessary for success. We measure your progress through assessments, which take the form of exams, essays, research papers, and an assortment of projects that can be completed online. If you have existing competencies from prior work and education, you may be able to draw upon this experience to complete your assessments faster and accelerate your degree program.
To verify your eligibility for the five percent tuition discount, you will need to interview with a WGU Enrollment Counselor. Make sure you identify yourself as an employee, member, client, or other affiliate of the National Urban League.
The Enrollment Counselor’s job is to help you evaluate if WGU is the right fit for you based on your career interests, educational background, and readiness for online study.
