Military Spouses to Graduates
Western Governors University is pleased to offer the WGU Military Spouses to Graduates Scholarships. These scholarships are available for military spouses looking to earn a WGU degree in information technology, business, health professions, or education (excluding programs covered by the Spouses to Teachers Supplemental Scholarship.)

Multiple scholarships will be awarded. You must, however, be accepted by WGU and demonstrate that you are a good candidate to succeed at WGU. Scholarships are awarded based upon a candidate's academic record, readiness for online study, and current competencies, plus other considerations.

A WGU Military Spouses to Graduates Scholarship is valued up to $1,500. The scholarship will be credited to the recipient's account at the rate of $300 per six-month term for up to five terms.

Who Should Apply
Spouses of active duty military personnel interested in obtaining a degree from the following colleges: Note: Students already receiving a WGU Spouses to Teachers Supplemental Scholarship are not eligible for this scholarship.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Must show proof of status as spouse of active-duty military personnel (spouses of reservists and National Guard are also eligible)
  • Complete an application
  • Satisfactorily complete the WGU Readiness Assessment
  • Be officially admitted to WGU
  • Submit official transcripts of all prior college work

Military spouses living outside the U.S. must have access to a proctored test facility on a military installation in order to be admitted to WGU.

NOTE: This scholarship program is available for new students only.

The scholarship recipient must read the WGU Student Handbook and agree to and understand the tuition and refund policies. The student will also be required to sign a WGU Scholarship Agreement before these monies are awarded.

Tuition for a six-month term for most programs is $2,890, less the $300 per term scholarship. To maintain your eligibility to receive the monies, you must maintain a 100 percent Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) rating through the duration of your degree program.

Financial Aid is Also Available
Good news! Financial aid is also available. You may choose to pay for the remaining portion of your tuition through federal financial aid (subject to your availability). Pell Grants, which do not have to be repaid, are granted based upon financial need. Federal Direct Student Loans are available to all students. Subsidized loans, which are dependent on financial need, reduce the interest due on loans.
About WGU
WGU is a regionally-accredited non-profit university founded and supported by 19 U.S. governors and more than 20 corporations and foundations. The university awards degrees based completely on competencies—your ability to demonstrate your skills and knowledge on a series of assessments carefully selected to measure your knowledge of a field of study—rather than through required courses. At WGU you can—
  • Obtain your degree completely at a distance-from any location (no residency requirements)
  • Use the knowledge you gained from prior work and academic experience to accelerate your degree program
  • Bypass taking courses in areas you've already mastered
  • Study at times and places convenient to you
If you would like to discuss the scholarship program or WGU's Special Education program before submitting an application for the scholarship, feel free to speak with a WGU Enrollment Counselor toll-free at 1-866-225-5948.

"Opened doors…"
"WGU has opened doors for me that I would not have been able to access without an extreme inconvenience for my family, my career, and myself."
—Connie Keogh, WGU graduate
"On my own time…"
"I chose WGU because of the freedom of doing the work on my own time and at my own pace. In the past, I had started master's programs twice through regular universities and found the class schedules impossible to fit into my schedule."
—Dennis Nalder, WGU graduate student
"Speed their licensure…"
WGU Teachers College will be a boon to states seeking training for current teachers and paraprofessionals to help them meet the education requirements under the No Child Left Behind Act and speed their licensure."
