Become a Teacher in Florida

If you aspire to become a teacher, Western Governors University can help.

Before becoming a licensed teacher, you must meet all of Florida’s teacher certification requirements, including:

  • Graduation from a bachelor’s degree program at a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Completion of a state-approved teacher education program offered by a regionally accredited post-secondary institution with a major course of study in the same subject area of the Florida license being sought.
  • Passing scores on the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations in the area of general knowledge (basic skills), as well as subject area knowledge (content) and professional preparation (pedagogy).
  • You must be employed either in a public school or a non-public school and clear a background check run by the employing school system.
