If you are passionate about helping others learn, completing an online teaching certification program at WGU is an excellent way to apply your skills.
Before becoming a licensed teacher in Ohio, you must meet all of Ohio's teacher certification requirements (for those who have attended out-of-state teacher preparation programs), including:
WGU graduates from initial Bachelor of Arts teacher preparation programs are eligible for a Four-Year Resident Educator license. However, in order to advance to the Five-Year Professional license in Ohio, applicants are required to have 9 semester hours in the teaching of reading and 3 semester hours in phonics. The Ohio Department of Education typically determines that WGU graduates from initial Bachelor of Arts teacher preparation programs have earned the equivalent of six semester hours in the teaching of reading, but are required to complete additional semester hours in the teaching of reading prior to advancing their license.
Note: Listed requirements are current and are subject to change at any time, even during enrollment.
