Job Description


The Manager, Business Licensure will work closely with other employees within the department, other university departments, and state licensure/certification agencies (e.g., Boards of Accountancy) to ensure that students in business programs leading to licensure/certification are able to obtain licensure/certification in their states of residence. The manager assists graduating students and alumni with obtaining state/territorial/provincial licensure/certification. The position identifies performance/process enhancing projects, including research of new programs and responses to deficiency notices, and assists with completion of projects. The position interfaces with various university departments and external regulatory agencies.



  • Maintains certification/licensure requirements for each program leading to a state/territorial/ provincial certificate/license using Salesforce SRM;
  • Maintains the relationships between the Licensure team and internal and external customers including current students, WGU graduates, Mentors, Curriculum, Enrollment, Admissions, Readmissions, Records, and Compliance and Accreditation;
  • Manages the student handbook content related to state, territory, and provincial licensing and certification requirements, ensuring that policies, procedures, and information are accurate;
  • Identifies performance/process enhancing projects, including research of new programs and responses to deficiency notices from State Boards of Accountancy, and assist with completion of projects;
  • Researches, responds, and closes out SRM cases from internal and external clients;
  • Serves as Certification Officer for states, as needed;
  • Provides guidance and strategy for solving state-specific concerns while providing timely, accurate responses to team inquiries; and
  • Responds in a timely fashion to changing requirements, priorities, and short deadlines.



  • Continued maintenance of the database of certification/licensure requirements by state/territory/ province;
  • Knowledge of changes to legislation and/or regulation of business programs that affect students’ attainment of licensing/certification;
  • Respond to questions in fewer than 48 hours; and
  • Complete personal and professional goals as established annually.


  • Understand the requirements of state/territorial/provincial licensure/certification bodies and write to them accordingly;
  • Know how graduates and alumni obtain licensure/certification from the state approval agencies;
  • Manage multiple, competing projects and deadlines; and
  • Have an acute attention to written and spoken details.

Required Skills

  • Technological competence with data entry, Outlook email and calendar, MS Office (Word and Excel), Adobe, CRM, and Salesforce;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and accurately;
  • Able to work well within a team;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong organizational and planning skills;
  • Sensitivity to and the ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Ability to interpret policies, regulatory codes, and standards; and
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and effectively organize, prioritize, and perform multiple job functions and conflicting priorities.

Required Experience

  • A certified public accountant (CPA),
  • An earned graduate degree in a writing-intensive field (e.g., humanities, English, law, or communications) from an accredited college or university,
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills,
  • Proven record of success in working with national, programmatic, and state accreditation and approval bodies including state boards of accountancy, and
  • Experience in program approval and business licensure.
