GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

The principle function of the Portfolio Manager is to interact with business users on their various data needs, document the requirements, design a strategy for gathering the data, and validate the data before presenting to business users.

 

The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for managing data and analysis requirements from end users; understand business needs and make pro-active recommendations. The Portfolio manager owns the work product of the team and therefore responsible for the accuracy, integrity and usefulness of the final products.

 

This position is expected to create report mockups and communicate with report writers and ETL developers on the technical requirements. This position will prioritize reporting and analysis requests. This position will act as a team leader to provide prioritization for Developers and Analysts.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and facilitate agile development cycles of BI applications at Western Governors University
  • Manages all phases of assigned projects (i.e., initiating, planning, executing, monitoring/controlling, and closing)
  • Keeps stakeholders and departmental leadership informed of project statuses, including, but not limited to, milestone achievements, toll gate progress, risks, and any issues that may adversely affect project schedules
  • Keeps project management records and systems accurate and up to date
  • Produces timely and accurate reports as directed
  • Develops realistic project plans and schedules by analyzing organizational process assets, enterprise environmental factors, task dependencies, resource requirements, work breakdown, and departmental strategy and priorities
  • Ensures projects meet organizational standards and are managed in accordance with applicable policies, processes, and procedures
  • Documents project deliverables, outputs, and notes that capture why key project decisions were made
  • Understands departmental strategic priorities and influences the actions and work efforts of team members in line those priorities

 

  • Handle ad-hoc report requirements
  • Train business users on how to access and interpret data using reporting and query tools

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with BI reporting tools, preferably Cognos
  • Designing test cases for report/ data validation
  • Expertise in requirement documentation
  • Knowledge of agile methodology
  • Good understanding of domain and ability to help end users define their requirements
  • Ability to define business audit processes for data integrity

Required Experience

 

  • B.S. Business, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Related Field
  • One or more of the following certifications:
    • Certified Scrum Product Owner
    • Certified Scrum Master
    • Six Sigma Green Belt
    • Or Comparable Certification
  • Four or more years of experience Analyst/Manager with some management or team lead experience
