Resilience Practices: Making A Vision Board

Jan 14, 2022

What:  Make a vision board

Why: Putting your goals on paper –  using images and words – can actually help you achieve them!  Visualizing can bring clarity to what you want to achieve and increase motivation and confidence.

How:

1. Start by reflecting on what is most important to you, both in the short term and the long term.  You might even make a quick t chart to record your ideas.  Once you feel you’ve captured everything, decide if your vision board is going to represent short-term or long-term goals.

2. Decide if you’re going to make a digital board, or something more tangible.

3. Browse through images and find ones that represent your goal.  Look for vivid pictures and words that catch your eye and spark excitement when you see them.  You can also add short words or phrases.  Notice any limiting self-talk that might emerge.  Those thoughts can get in the way of you visualizing what is truly possible for yourself.  Decide whether they’re helpful and if you decide they’re not, try positive affirmations instead.

4. Arrange the images and words on your board.

5. Once you’re done, keep your board in a regular line of sight.  Consider setting a daily intention that aligns with your vision.

6. Make updates!  Life changes.  Resilience depends on our ability to make shifts.  Add new images, tear off ones that turn out to be distracting you, rather than motivating you towards your goal.

7. A vision board alone won’t help you achieve your goals.  That takes action.  But with supportive inspiration from your board, you’ll be more motivated to take your first step.
