Look Who’s Recognizing Us Now

WGU’s innovative education and support models, combined with our three-pronged focus on quality, flexibility, and affordability—and all of it, of course, designed with student and graduate success at its heart—catch a lot of attention within academia, industry and business, government …

With all the attention and recognition WGU gets, it’s sometimes hard to keep track of it all.

So let’s take a look back at the recent awards and recognitions WGU has received over the past month or so. These notices reflect on the quality of education you receive as a WGU Night Owl and on the value your degree will bring to the workplace, so it’s worth keeping tabs on. Here we go…!

  • Best Value School. For the second year in a row, University Research & Review has named WGU a Best Value School. This award was designed to move past the “one-size-fits-all” metrics-based ranking systems that are traditional in evaluating higher education and instead to look at schools on a case-by-case basis, taking into account all the factors that add up to a highly valuable education.
  • Excellence in Distance Learning. The United States Distance Learning Association is a leading organization on online and distance education, and every year they recognize institutions and individuals who stand out in this increasingly crowded field. For the fifth year in a row—and the sixth time total since 2008—WGU received the organization’s 21st Century Award for Best Practices in Distance Learning. Also this year, Chief Nursing Officer Jan Jones-Schenk, who heads up WGU’s College of Health Professions, received an award for Outstanding Leadership by an Individual in the Field of Distance Learning.
  • Best of State. WGU is a nationwide university that serves students in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, Canada, and on U.S. military bases around the world—but our headquarters are in Salt Lake City, Utah, and once again, Utah’s Best of State awards has recognized us with a medal for Best Online Education.
