Mission-driven. Student-centric. Nonprofit.
WGU Indiana was established early in 2010 as a part of Western Governors University with a unique mission to help Hoosiers obtain a quality education. When WGU was established in 1997, the founding governors — which included the governor of Indiana — realized that technology, the Internet, and a new model of competency-based education could transform higher education by creating new opportunities for working adults.
The mission of WGU Indiana is to open doors for adult learners who need the flexibility and affordability of an Indiana online university to achieve educational and career goals.
WGU Indiana is a partnership between the state of Indiana and nationally recognized Western Governors University. WGU Indiana offers more than 60 bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the high-demand fields of business, IT, teacher education, and healthcare. WGU Indiana now serves more than 5,600 students and has awarded degrees to more than 6,900 Indiana residents.
We help our students achieve their dreams for a degree and career success by providing a personal, flexible, and affordable education based on real-world competencies.
As an online university, WGU Indiana provides faculty support throughout your program—meaning your goals become our goals.
As a nonprofit, we're driven by a mission, not by shareholders. And our mission just happens to be creating success stories like these:
Accreditation status can give you an indication of a university's general quality and reputation. According to Peterson's, a premier educational resource, by attending a regionally accredited university, you are assured of a basic level of quality in education and services, credits are more likely to be transferrable to other accredited institutions, and your degree is more likely to be recognized and respected by other colleges and employers.
Our parent university was designed to break the mold of traditional higher education with something new, something innovative; something that harnesses technology to teach in new ways, focuses on measuring learning rather than time, and provides more people the opportunity to build their careers and better lives by finally finishing that bachelor's or master's degree they need to achieve their goals.
A competency-based degree is earned by proving knowledge, not logging hours in class.
WGU is one of the best values in education. Low tuition, and save even more when you accelerate.
Master career-relevant skills and knowledge for better opportunities, respect, and ROI.
"WGU is about fundamental change in the way higher education is delivered. It's right, it's real, and it's efficient. It's what higher education will require to succeed in the future." Michael O. Leavitt,
Former U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services
Former Governor of Utah
One important measure of a degree’s value is the reputation of the university where it was earned. When employers, industry leaders, and academic experts hold your alma mater in high esteem, your degree benefits from the added clout of their endorsement. Our faculty members are seasoned professionals in the fields in which they instruct. They know their industries, and their knowledge is more than just academic: It’s practical.
Unlike most universities, where faculty members wear many hats, WGU’s faculty is structured in a way that allows them to really focus on student success.
