Teacher Licensure State Requirements - Connecticut

Become a Teacher in Connecticut

Are you looking to make a difference? Earning your teacher degree will help you prepare for your teaching certification and will give you the skills to connect with your students.

Before becoming a licensed teacher, you must meet all of Connecticut’s teacher certification requirements (for those who have attended out-of-state teacher prep programs), including:

  • Graduation from a bachelor’s degree program.
  • Completion of a teacher preparation program that a) is approved to lead to teacher certification in the home state of the program and b) prepares one for certification in an area for which CT awards teacher certification.
  • Passing all of the required Praxis content exams and the basic skills exam.
  • Proof of teacher certification awarded by the department of education of the state in which the teacher preparation program is approved. This applies only to Elementary Education and Bachelor of Arts in Special Education programs.

Note: Listed requirements are current and are subject to change at any time, even during enrollment.
