In its 2014 review of 2,400 teacher education programs nationwide, the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) recognized WGU’s secondary math education program as first in the nation, proving once again that competency-based learning is a great way to prepare teachers for the classroom. And, NCTQ ranked WGU’s elementary education programs 16th among those evaluated—only one of 26 elementary ed programs recognized for quality. WGU was one of only 10 institutions to make the top lists for both elementary and secondary education.
In the Review, the NCTQ recognized WGU’s commitment and focus on quality: “The top program in the nation for secondary teachers is at Western Governors University, which had nearly perfect scores across the board and whose online training is accessible to any aspiring teacher in the nation. Primarily an online program, Western Governors University places staff in every state who carefully oversee the delivery of a strong student teaching experience.”
