With the new year upon us, we will undoubtedly come across plenty of advice on "how to set a goal and keep it." We will learn that the key to a goal is to make it SMART—specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. For example, "I will lose weight" is a great start, but it’s not a SMART goal. To turn it into a SMART goal, focus on "what by when"—say, "I will run 30 minutes every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday." This goal is much more specific, measurable, and attainable.
