Maurice has spent decades providing dynamic live tournament coverage of world-class chess competitions and matches. His high-energy, unapologetic, and irreverent commentary combines Brooklyn street smarts with professional ESPN-style sports analysis. He has covered every class of elite event, including the World Chess Championships, the US Chess Championships, the Grand Chess Tour, and the legendary “Man vs. Machine” matches between Garry Kasparov and IBM’s Deep Blue.

Traveling the world as an ardent spokesperson for the many character-building effects of chess, Maurice shares how chess principles and strategies can be applied to improve business practices and assist with personal growth. Tiara Jones

Tiara Jones has been a nurse for 11 years with experience working in acute bedside nursing, behavioral health, women and infant services, public health, and home infusion. She has worked for a large home infusion pharmacy for over six years and has a passion for the infusion nursing profession and providing educational development to nurses.

After obtaining her Certified Registered Nurse Infusion, Tiara moved into a nursing leadership role. This inspired her to further her education and take her

career to the next level by enrolling in WGU’s Master of Science in Nursing program. Shortly before completing her degree, her employer promoted her from nursing supervisor to Director of Nursing. She believes that a nursing leader plays an important role in supporting and advocating for nurses and looks forward to continuing to grow and develop in this role.

Tiara is the proud mother of three amazing children and wife to a wonderful husband of 18 years. While she has spent most of her life in Arizona, their family relocated to Oregon last year. They love exploring their new home and going on adventures to see the coast, waterfalls, and beautiful scenery. When she’s not working, Tiara loves spending time with family and friends, paddleboarding, gardening, hiking, and camping.

Daniel Baker

Orange County CTE STEM Lab middle school teacher, Daniel Baker, runs one of the top ten STEM lab classes in the country. Daniel is known for his innovative thinking and big idea projects like starting a Maker’s Club to build a full-scale replica of the 1902 Wright Brother’s Glider from scratch.

Daniel chose to finish his bachelor’s degree and then obtain his master’s degree through WGU to balance his passion for teaching with his need to

support his family.  “You don’t need a degree to become a CTE teacher,” says Daniel. “You just need experience and skill. Unfortunately, CTE teachers are not paid well, and at some point, you must draw a line between your love of teaching and your need to support your family.” Now, he will start a new career as an instructional designer; a choice that leverages his teaching experience with his education.

Daniel has been married for 28 years and has four children. He loves film and dabbles in independent filmmaking. In his free time, he hopes to produce two screenplays he has written.

Graduates can receive a Philanthropy Cord by making a gift of $25 or more to WGU’s Fellow Night Owl Scholarship, a fund established to help current WGU students facing financial hardship cross the finish line to graduation. To donate, graduates can text “WGUCord” to 41-444 or visit this link.
