WGU’s 15th Anniversary
In the summer of 2012, we celebrated 15 years since the WGU’s articles of incorporation were signed by 19 U.S. governors and Western Governors University was born. WGU launched with the goal of providing thousands of Americans access to education that was neither limited by place nor measured by time. In 1999, the first students enrolled in this first-of-its-kind university, and a year later, in 2000, the first graduate earned her degree from WGU. Today, more than 50,000 students are enrolled at WGU, and more than 40,000 degrees have been awarded. More importantly, WGU’s model continues to be a disruptive innovator, changing the way we think of higher education for working adults.
