WGU Indiana Celebrates National Nurses Week with $50,000 in Scholarships

May 7, 2019

INDIANAPOLIS – In celebration of National Nurses Week, which runs from May 6-12, WGU Indiana has announced it will award up to $50,000 in scholarships to nurses across Indiana who are interested in furthering their education. The WGU Loves Nurses Scholarship is open to nurses wishing to pursue a CCNE-accredited BSN or MSN degree, or a bachelor’s or master’s degree from the online, nonprofit university in specialties that include healthcare management, health information management and more.

Each WGU Loves Nurses Scholarships is valued at up to $2,500 and applied at $625 per six-month term for up to four terms. To be eligible, scholarship applicants must be officially admitted to WGU Indiana, complete the scholarship application and be interviewed by a WGU scholarship counselor. Recipients will be selected based on academic records, financial need, readiness for online study and current competency, among other considerations.

“Nursing is more than a job, it’s a calling,” said WGU Indiana Chancellor Alison Bell. “This scholarship allows WGU Indiana to show our appreciation for all nurses who dedicate their lives to caring for others while encouraging those interested in advancing their nursing career to take a leap and further their education.”

The National League for Nursing has named WGU Indiana’s College of Health Professions a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education for creating environments that enhance student learning and professional development. Designed to meet the needs of working nurses, WGU’s BSN, MSN and MBA programs provide the knowledge, skills, and credentials employers seek.

WGU pioneered competency-based education, which measures learning rather than time spent in class. This allows health professionals to earn career-enhancing degrees while meeting work and family obligations. Students complete their programs by studying on schedules that fit their lives, advancing as soon as they demonstrate that they have mastered course materials. Many students are able to apply prior learning and work experience to help them accelerate their time to earning a degree, saving both time and money.

Since the university's founding in 2019, 3,079 nurses have graduated from WGU Indiana, and 1,363 nursing students are currently pursuing BSN and MSN degrees through WGU Indiana.

The application deadline for the WGU Loves Nurses Scholarship is June 30, 2019. For more information on WGU Indiana, visit www.wgu.edu/indiana or follow the university on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
