WGU and TMC Announce Partnership Agreement

Partnership provides access to scholarships and continued healthcare education

Nov 30, 2022

TAMPA, Fla. Tampa Medical College (TMC), an institution committed to increasing the quality of healthcare education in the Greater Tampa Bay area and beyond, has announced an academic partnership with accredited, nonprofit, online Western Governors University (WGU).

TMC graduates and employees can grow in their skills and continue their educational path by applying for the $2,500 WGU Community College Partner Scholarship, further preparing them for today’s workforce.

“We are thrilled to begin this collaboration with WGU to provide future healthcare heroes with affordable, high-quality education,” said Jasmine Amari, TMC’s Director of Admissions. “This partnership will equip TMC graduates with the skills and resources they need to be successful in their careers.”

The nursing shortage continues to grow, with more than 60,000 R.N. and LPN openings projected by 2035, according to the Florida Hospital Association and Safety Net Hospital Alliance of Florida. As Florida’s population continues to grow and get older, the need to build a strong healthcare workforce is more pertinent than ever.

“Both WGU and TMC are committed to helping individuals reach their fullest potentials through affordable education opportunities,” said Kimberly K. Estep, WGU’s Southeast Regional Vice President. “With the growing need for healthcare professionals, we strongly believe this partnership will fill that need and help students achieve their career goals.”

As a leader in the higher education landscape for 25 years, WGU offers more than 60 online degree programs in business, K-12 education, healthcare, and information technology, as well as several micro-credential options that can be stacked toward a degree. Tuition is around $4,000 per semester for most undergraduate degree programs. Every program is mentor-supported and designed to fit into busy work and home schedules. In Florida alone, nearly 7,184 students are enrolled in WGU, which has conferred more than 14,800 degrees in the state.
