Northeast Spotlight

I can do anything I set my mind to.

Meet Jennifer Lee, a WGU College of Business student from Virginia.

Jennifer Lee

Jennifer Lee lives in Richmond, Virginia. Enrolled in the College of Business, she is earning a bachelor of science in business, with a specialty in human resource management.

Why did you choose WGU?

I thought the only way I was going to be able to finish my degree was to choose an online university. I researched many other schools and decided WGU would be the best fit for my life, because they wanted to ensure that I had all the tools I needed so I could be successful. Course mentors want you to pass and move on!  Where else could you get that type of support?

Did you have doubts about enrolling in WGU?

No doubts about WGU—just doubts if I could actually juggle family, work and full-time school.  WGU made it SO easy! With everything being online, it made it easy to access all the tools for success anywhere! Plus, many of the cohorts were recorded so you could listen to course material on a number of different devices anytime. I would read or listen to course material at work, at home or even in the car. The website is easy to navigate, and course mentors are accessible early, late and even on the weekends.

If you could talk to someone who has the same doubts now, what would you say?

Just do it! Keep reminding yourself of the end goal and once you are done, you will have a degree!

How will earning your degree advance your career?

I have 20 years of human resources experience and have found not having a degree has really limited my upward mobility and earning potential. I believe a degree is the final key to my success, as I want to advance to a director level and eventually to vice president of human resources. It will give me a sense of accomplishment—especially at my age.

What has been the best thing about your WGU experience?

My student mentor has been phenomenal!  Also, I love how I can set my own pace to finish each course. I have learned that I can do anything I set my mind to!
