Arkansas Northeastern College and Western Governors University Partner to Eliminate Transfer Barriers for Students Who Seek Four-year Degrees

The partnership will prepare students for a successful transition to bachelor’s degree programs at online, competency-based university

BLYTHEVILLE – Western Governors University (WGU) and Arkansas Northeastern College (ANC) announced a partnership to support students seeking a bachelor’s degree after completing their associate degrees. The partnership creates pathways for the Arkansas Northeastern College students, graduates, and employees to work toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree and further their education at WGU. The public community college began it’s first term in 1975 and has grown to serve students at their main campus in Blytheville and second center in Leachville.

“We are excited to partner with WGU for the success of students and their opportunity to pursue bachelor’s and master’s degrees,” said Dr. James Shemwell, Arkansas Northeastern College president.  “This agreement is a perfect example how two-year and four-year colleges can partner to create educational pathways for our students.”

This is the first transfer agreement between ANC and WGU and streamlines the process for ANC graduates pursuing a bachelor’s degree at WGU. Through the agreement, students who graduated with their associates from ANC, graduates, faculty, and staff may select among more than 60 accredited bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in information technology, business, health professions, and teaching. Transfer students also receive special benefits including:

  • Exclusive partner scholarships, valued at up to $2,500.
  • Comprehensive and seamless transfer policy.
  • All completed courses at ANC with a "C" or higher are automatically accepted.

“More than 63,000 students attend community colleges in Arkansas, including ANC,” said Linda Battles, Regional Director, WGU South Region. “Students who transfer from ANC can earn degrees in twelve different fields at WGU. This partnership helps students reach their next goal by creating an opportunity to earn accredited, degree programs online that will prepare them to enter some of the state’s most in-demand careers.”

WGU’s current enrollment is more than 136,000 students and approximately 62 are transfers from ANC with 22 WGU alumni.
