The Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC) has partnered with Western Governors University (WGU) to offer WAFC associates of member institutions an opportunity to continue their education and earn a WGU business bachelor's degree.

Comprised of 33 grocery retailers and wholesalers with stores and facilities located across the nation and headquartered in Lakewood, California, WAFC's mission is to advance leadership through education, primarily through its Retail Management Certificate (RMC) program.  The RMC is a 24-25 credit certificate program taken at one of 150 partner community colleges across the country.  WGU has articulated this program into each of its business bachelor’s degrees.

How you can transfer your RMC credits to WGU.

All courses you have taken in pursuit of a Retail Management Certificate can be articulated into each WGU undergraduate business degree program. These transfer pathways are described in more detail here

Students with additional credits and/or an associate’s degree from a community college may be able to transfer in even more credits to meet general education requirements.

WGU makes earning your degree affordable.

Associates of WAFC partner institutions may be eligible to receive generous tuition reimbursement benefits* each year. RMC graduates will receive a 5 percent discount on WGU tuition for up to four terms. With WGU’s low, flat-rate tuition, these benefits can cover a significant part of your tuition costs.

Associates are also eligible to apply for the $2,500 Western Association of Food Chains Scholarship. Scholarships are one of the many ways in which WGU removes obstacles from your path to achieving your education goals and improving your career opportunities.

*Check with your HR representative to confirm your benefits.

Yes, those individuals who earn a bachelor’s degree typically see a higher salary as well as additional opportunities open to them.  In fact, college graduates in general earn roughly $900K more than high school graduates over their working life. Add a certificate of specialization, such as the Retail Management Certificate, along with a degree, and the potential increases.  Studies have also shown that those who earn a bachelor’s degree live longer and directly impact their children’s future education as well.
