WGU Texas Welcomes Military Outreach Strategic Partnerships Manager

Joe Carrillo to develop and champion partnerships with military-affiliated organizations

AUSTIN — Online, nonprofit university WGU Texas has hired Joe Carrillo as Military Outreach Strategic Partnerships Manager for Texas and the greater region, including New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. In this new role, Carrillo will develop and build relationships with military-affiliated organizations and partners, active duty military, spouses, dependents, and veterans to support workforce development through continuing education at WGU.

Carrillo comes to WGU Texas with more than 20 years of strategic business development with the military, S&P 500 organizations, healthcare, and higher education markets. 

Most recently, he served as Director of Business Development for El Paso Behavioral Health System and is president of the nonprofit Paso del Norte Borderplex Veteran Coalition, that serves to bridge the gap between veteran organizations and government agencies to ensure that veterans, transitioning service and family members have access to resources.      

“Joe’s extensive experience in developing corporate and business partnerships, his work with military installations and veteran service organizations, and assisting organizations and individuals prepare for the modern workforce make him an excellent addition to the WGU Texas team,” said Michael Glazebrook, Regional Manager, Strategic Partnerships. Carrillo will also work with military education service officers and other military partners to foster awareness of WGU degree programs.

Carrillo earned a B.S. in Business Management and an M.S. in Administration Justice and Security from the University of Phoenix. The Congress of the United States House of Representatives awarded Carrillo a special congressional recognition certificate in honor of his service to the community and in support of transitioning U.S. Army service members at Ft. Bliss.
