WGU North Carolina Announces up to $150,000 in New Year Scholarships

Scholarships valued at up to $2,000 available to new students

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – WGU North Carolina, an affiliate of the national nonprofit Western Governors university, has announced the availability of up to $150,000 in New Year Scholarships for busy adults who would like to earn a college degree on a schedule that fits their lives. The application deadline is March 31, 2020.

Valued at up to $2,000 per student, the New Year Scholarship is open to new students enrolling in any of WGU’s more than 60 bachelor’s or master’s degree programs in business, information technology, health professions, and K-12 education.

The scholarships will be applied at the rate of $500 per six-month term, reducing already-low tuition by about 15% for the average undergraduate degree. Tuition is around $3,225 per six-month term for most degree programs.

“More than 36 million Americans, including more than one million North Carolinians, have some college credit but no post-secondary degree,” says WGU North Carolina Chancellor Catherine Truitt. “The New Year Scholarship and WGU’s flexible competency-based education model can help many working adults earn degrees that can lead to better prospects for career advancement.”
