The Apryl Abel Special Education Scholarship Fund is established in honor of Apryl Abel who dedicated her life to supporting special education students. This scholarship will be available to all students pursuing a undergraduate or graduate degree in special education teaching at WGU.
About Apryl Abel:
Apryl was a wonderful young woman whose love and passion was her special needs students. She did not see them as handicapped but as handi-capable and it was her mission to develop what they were able to do to lead to their success. She made sure her students never hungered for actual food or knowledge. Apryl impacted the lives of hundreds of students and their families across Colorado.
Apryl’s motto: A hundred years from now it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, nor how much money I had in my bank account, but the world may be better because I was important in the life of a child!
This scholarship is set up so that Apryl’s passion can be passed on through generations of caring, compassionate, and competent special ed teachers.
“I became a teacher to help prevent students from falling through the cracks. I went through school and struggled because I have dyslexia and was not diagnosed until I was a sophomore in college. I was able to get my BA and then my MA in special education.
