Perkinson leads the design, development, and ongoing evolution of WGU’s portfolio of degree programs, courses, and assessments. His organization supports more than 140 undergraduate and graduate programs and more than 1,000 courses across WGU’s four schools.
He leads efforts to advance WGU’s competency-based education model and develop learning experiences that are rigorous, scalable, and responsive to the needs of students and the workforce. His work spans academic program strategy, curriculum and assessment development, learning experience design, emerging technology, and the responsible application of artificial intelligence in higher education.
Perkinson has also helped establish new approaches to academic innovation at WGU, including a dedicated team focused on exploring how emerging technologies can improve the design and delivery of learning. That work includes research and development involving AI-enabled learning experiences, continuous assessment, and new methods for evaluating course quality before students encounter potential barriers. WGU’s approach keeps human expertise central to decisions about academic quality and student learning.
Before joining WGU in 2021, Perkinson spent nearly 15 years at LeapFrog Enterprises, ultimately serving as senior vice president of global product development. He previously held product development and production leadership roles at LucasArts, Sony Computer Entertainment America, Visual Concepts and Sega of America.
