WGU Texas, South Texas College Sign Agreement to Make Higher Education More Accessible

Partnership streamlines process for graduates, employees and staff to pursue bachelor’s and master’s degrees

MCALLEN – WGU Texas and South Texas College (STC) announced today the signing of an agreement that creates pathways for students, employees and graduates to work toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree and further their education at WGU Texas. South Texas College is the largest higher education institution south of San Antonio.

“South Texas College students and employees are truly exceptional and eager to continue their college education,” said Dr. Shirley A. Reed, South Texas College President. “This agreement for the seamless transfer from STC to WGU Texas with a discounted tuition is a great pathway for our students and employees to continue their education to earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree.”

South Texas College graduates, faculty and staff will receive a 5 percent discounted tuition at WGU Texas, exclusive partner scholarships, valued at up to $2,000, and can select from more than 60 accredited bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in information technology, business, health professions and teaching. Students transferring from STC can expect a comprehensive transfer policy. Information about WGU Texas’ community college partnerships and scholarship opportunities is available at

WGU Texas’ current enrollment is more than 12,250 students, with students enrolled in 236 of the state’s 254 counties, including 165 students from Hidalgo, Starr, and Cameron Counties, and 145 active students and graduates from South Texas College.
