Western Governors University Announces Partnership with Harps Food Stores, Inc.

Agreement extends online, competency-based learning opportunities to all employees to assist with career goals

Springdale, AR – Western Governors University (WGU) today announced a new partnership with Harps Food Stores, Inc. to provide access to high-quality educational opportunities that support the educational goals of its employees.

Harps Food Stores, Inc. with headquarters in Springdale, Arkansas, is an employee-owned supermarket store, with 5,500 employees and stores in four states, including Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas. Harps is the largest employee-owned company headquartered in Arkansas.  

“WGU has built strong relationships with employers across the United States,” WGU Regional Vice President Linda Battles said. “We are very excited to be a Harps Food Stores, Inc. academic partner offering employees flexible, personalized pathways to higher education and opportunities to upskill in support of their career goals.”

In addition to Harps Food Stores’ support of employee learning management opportunities, the partnership offers value-added benefits, such as exclusive scholarships, competency-based education, and affordable flat-rate tuition of approximately $7,000 per year for most programs.  

Additionally, WGU will provide:

  • A unique landing page URL for employees and promote this opportunity through printed materials, social media, on-site presentations, and other channels at
  • Access to WGU career services, resources, events, webinar training, and employee lunch and learns.
  • Employees can apply for free, waiving the $65 application fee.  
  • Employees are eligible for special scholarships, including the WGU Collaborative Agreement Scholarship, valued at $2,500.
