WGU TEXAS Celebrate Our 10th Anniversary!

Join In Our Celebration!

From Amarillo to Austin, from Fort Worth to El Paso, from the Gulf Coast to the Piney Woods—it is time to celebrate!

On August 3, 2021, WGU Texas marks ten years of providing expanded access to affordable, career-focused degrees to adult learners across the state. Join us in marking our 10-Year Anniversary with celebrations through the end of the year.

Established by the state of Texas in August 2011, WGU Texas’ innovative competency-based education has helped strengthen the state’s workforce by expanding access to affordable higher education and creating better lifestyles for graduates and their families.

But the real success stories are our students and graduates. The university’s enrollment has grown to 14,000 full-time students, and it has awarded nearly 20,000 bachelor’s and master’s degrees in high-demand fields, changing lives one degree at a time.

WGU Texas 10-Year Anniversary Scholarship

We believe in the inherent worth of every human being and that talent is universal, but that opportunity is not. In honor of WGU Texas’ 10th anniversary year, the university is awarding $10,000 scholarships to 10 newly enrolled students to create more pathways between talent and opportunity.

Linda Battles

Message from Linda Battles, WGU Texas Chancellor

At WGU Texas, we believe the role of higher education is to make an impact wherever and whenever possible. In the ten-year history of WGU Texas, we have strived to be a solution for the nearly four million Texans who have some college education and no degree, to better serve our military community, veterans and their families, bolster the number of underserved Texans who see both college and a degree as a realistic goal, and improve the workforce by preparing more Texans to take on the important jobs that are redefining our modern economy and society.

We are grateful for the opportunity to help so many Texans change their lives, and proud of our ability to put higher education within reach for more Texans, with nearly $8.5 million in scholarships awarded to 22 percent of WGU Texas students. Our students and graduates live and work in 233 of the state's 254 counties. We cannot wait to see what the next decade will hold as we continue to assist individuals in achieving their educational goals and work to create stronger families, stronger communities and a stronger state.

To honor our 10th anniversary, Texas State Representative Jim Murphy and Chairman of the House Committee on Higher Education and District 4 Senator Brandon Creighton helped kick off our celebration with proclamations commending WGU Texas’ work to changes lives for the better through higher education.

WGU Texas was created in 2011 by state leaders through Executive Order RP-75 and partners with the State of Texas.
