John Van Heest

Lead Communications Representative

John serves as a Lead Communications Representative for Western Governors University’s (WGU) College of IT and the Office of the CIO/SVP of Technology. Prior to WGU, John has assumed leadership roles in communications, public relations, and community outreach for several cultural, educational, and arts organizations in the United States and Canada. John’s experience extends into the university classroom in a teaching capacity where he has facilitated communication and presentation skills workshops, and he has served on the faculty of the University of Tampa, Drexel University in Philadelphia and McGill University in Montreal.

He has sat on the Board of Directors for the Boreal Theater and Community Arts Center in Millinocket, Maine, and he has been a member of the Faculty Board of Advisors for McGill University’s School of Continuing Studies where he worked on digital engagement efforts to connect with alumni of the school. Previously, John has served on grant panels for the National Endowment for the Arts American Rescue Plan, the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts, as well as the Delaware Division of the Arts.
